Government bond volatility?

My growth 3 isa lost 2500 in a day. The culprit was Amanda Government Bond. Anyone else hit. Seems a lot, 10% of portfolio . Are Govt bond that volitile at the moment?

Hi, I haven’t heard of this bond before - Amanda Government Bond. Can you post the Ticker or ISIN or SEDOL, please?

Guessing based on what you said but could it be Amundi UK Government Bonds- GILS? It’s the only thing I see with an odd looking chart.

If so, it looks like there was a share split yesterday so you should receive extra shares of the fund for each one that you already own. I’m unsure as to what timeframe that would happen in on IE.

The relevant info is here:

This is part of a Growth 3 ISA, it’s just I set the parameters as low risk low return so am a bit shocked by the volatility. Represents 10% of portfolio loss in a day. Not sure that is low risk.

Amundi UK Government Bond
GILS
ISIN LU1407892592

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Thanks for that, I’m not sure I understand what is going on, I am more a set and let things take their course kind of investor. But a drop that significant in the fund set alarms off. Should I be concerned?

the share split happened late on friday.

i hope the fund will rebalance on monday 8am as i am down a lot!

1 year portfolio

It is nothing to be concerned about but can understand if you were to just look at your account and see such a discrepancy you would wonder what the heck happened.

The fund isn’t really down in value like it currently looks in your portfolio and you will be credited the difference.

This is something that can occasionally happen, where the fund provider (Amundi) decides to split the shares up to make the fund cheaper per share.

An example for why could be where a fund has been around for a very long time and/or been very successful in growth and has reached a very high share price. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to trade fractional shares like us, so a face value of £100+ per share could be out of reach to investors or psychologically off putting. Bringing the per-share price down can increase trading activity, improve liquidity and bring spreads down for everyone trading that fund which is a good thing.

This was a 20:1 split so, in your case, Amundi will have credited you with 19 extra shares for each 1 that you owned on Friday.

I just haven’t observed a share split on IE so I can’t state when you will see those shares in your account. I would take a stab in the dark and guess within a few days at most but don’t hold me to that.

Many thanks

No correction yet (monday 1400), I’ll wait a few days before making further enquiries.

Hi, just to say that my portfolio was showing the same large drop due to the Amundi UK Government Bond Stock Split. It has just updated in the last 30mins with the corrected number of shares (x20) which has brought the value back to the same as it was before the split happened. I guess they must be working through them and hope yours gets updated soon.
