Suggestion: Open account API/third party apps

I know this could be a controversial one as it has security implications, but it would be really cool to have some sort of open API that users or developers could use to enhance how they view their profile data?

Perhaps initially just a few endpoints to get a users current portfolio and list of purchases (ie nothing that changes state or spends the users money), and allows a couple of free calls a day before the user has to pay for credits?

Sounds like a good idea to me.

What Is does open API mean?

As an Emma user, I’d find it useful if 3rd party apps could access portfolio balances and transactions via an open API.

API means Application Programming Interface - it would allow a user to get their data in a JSON format (kinda like an Excel spreadsheet) and analyse it and visualise it their own way automatically

Perhaps this might be a featured offered to managed portfolio clients, once the crowdfunding process has moved along…

Why not all account holders @Omian?
InvestEngine could easily charge for API keys if they wanted, and DIY account holders are probably more likely to find API access useful as they’re making any decisions themselves!

No reason at all. I guess it depends upon their business model. I’m a DIYer and would find it very useful and yet another reason to stay with InvestEngine if it were offered FOC.
