SIPP 'IN' Transfers

Hi! I’m sorry to hear about your frustration. I’m afraid, we don’t have a specific date to share for when SIPP transfers will be available, but I can assure you that it remains a top priority for our team. We understand how important this is and appreciate your patience.

I am eagerly awaiting SIPP IN Transfers. Im sure the team is working on it as a priority, lets face it, they are missing out on managing many millions. One can only assum that these things take time. While it is frustrating for both parties, i am hopefull that there will be some kind of transfer offer / reward when it does go live.

Untill they, i remain waiting and checking for any updates.

exactly - I’m one of them. Just got the Vanguard email and thus started a SIPP here. Now need to find a way to transfer my Vanguard SIPP in here.

Not happy with the Vanguard price increase so thought about moving my ISA and Sipp to Invest Engine but with the lack of transfer in I am not sure I will now. It is such a mistake to not provide this service!

I’m sure IE are as desperate as us their customers for SIPP transfers! Will be available early 2025 I hear.

Yeah, they said that last year too…

As one railway journalist said to me “Always mistrust schedules based on the seasons”. “Early 2025”, in this context, is a season.

I know it’s been a wait - but our new pensions lead is on the case and working hard to get SIPP transfers to you. And the community will be among the first to hear about it as soon as we do.

What what what?? What’s going off? Can I transfer my SIPP into Invest Engine yet? Been waiting for this for ages

Bizarre that this is taking so long. With the Vanguard fee changes there’s thousands of people out there who are likely to want to move and tens of millions of pounds to move. IE missing out here.

Quick update from us. We’ve just launched SIPP transfers for Vanguard customers, you can start your transfer here: InvestEngine Self-Invested Personal Pensions (SIPP) At the moment, transfers need to be done on the website, however we are aiming to update the app at the beginning of the week. The team is working hard, and we hope to roll out wider transfers soon.

We’re really excited! The 10% would be converted to cash. ETF products are transferred in specie, everything else as cash. Hope that helps!

The functionality is obviously there now so when will transfers in be rolled out across all providers?

Hi @WCTiger - the team is working hard, and we hope to be able to role wider transfers out as soon as possible. Stay tuned - as soon as we have any news, we’ll post it on here!

Will the SIPP transfer incur a fee? Or will it be free like the ISA transfer?

As Vanguard transfers now available -

I have an AJ Bell Dodl SIPP I would like to transfer to Invest Engine. Would it be quicker to transfer from AJ Bell to Vanguard then to IE or wait for IE to allow AJ Bell to IE transfers?

I wouldn’t suggest moving to Vanguard and I’m not sure IE can comment on the speed between AJ Bell and Vanguard to give you a informed response.

I also bet Vanguard are very busy at the moment hah!

I’m contemplating moving a personal pension held with SJP, but IE have said i can’t at the moment, so I’m wondering whether to move it to Vanguard and then on to IE. I’m not too sure what charges there would be and if there is a minimum time that i need to be with Vanguard before i can transfer to IE and close my vanguard account. I’ve done some digging but very difficult to get any clear answer. Thoughts?

@Gmac
Well… there are a number of things to consider, methinks.

    • Time needed for the transfers to take place.

This is what Vanguard currently says about incoming pension transfers - 1-10 weeks but “sometimes” longer - this is pretty vague and open to interpretation. Any time you were to ask they would advise that it “is in progress” but not give a date - same as IE and every other platform.

You also have to take into account that it will take time for the transfer from Vanguard to IE. Going by what I can see on these 'ere boards - this is currently not a smooth process and doesn’t seem to be fast either. Again, no date for transfer completion will be given, methinks.

For the amount of time your transfer from Vanguard to IE takes place you would have to pay account fees to Vanguard.

Pension value less than £32K - £4/month fee
Pension value more than £32K - 0.15% of portfolio value per year

The transfer from Vanguard to IE itself doesn’t cost any money though.

  1. Time needed to be with Vanguard
There is no such requirement that you would have to be with Vanguard for x days/weeks/months before requesting a transfer.

So, you could request a transfer within, let’s say, 1 week after your transfer from SJP has gone through - unless Vanguard advises differently. If asked… as reason you would give that the SIPP with IE is free of any charges.

  1. Fees
There are no fees to transfer out of Vanguard to another platform / provider. There will be an account fee charged for the time you’re a customer of Vanguard as above.

You would need to check which, if any, fees SJP would charge to transfer your portfolio in specie or cash. Please take into account that Vanguard only offers its own ETF’s / Funds so if your holdings with SJP are not in Vanguard products then everything would be sold first and then transferred in cash. Please also take into account that you still may have to continue paying admin fees to SJP for the amount of time you transfer takes place.

  1. Anything else
There is the general question to consider as to what amount of money SJP is charging right now to handle your pension.

Based on this amount and your portfolio value - you may well decide to not transfer your portfolio from SJP to Vanguard to IE right now but rather to wait until the transfer capabilities of IE have improved to the point that this transfers can be done directly from SJP.
