Have I really bought an investment?

I am new to investing, and 2 months ago I thought I had invested into a Vanguard fund called ‘FTSE Developed World UCITS ETF - Acc’. My portfolio calls it ‘Vanguard FTSE Developed World’

The value of my purchase appears to have increased by £2,000 but my Investment Engine account shows no change.

Could anybody explain why?

I’ve just realised I can paste a picture. It looks like this after 2 months

I believe that’s just the name of your portfolio. If you click on it, it should show you the breakdown of which funds or cash you have in that portfolio and see all transactions.

Thank you for your observation. I can’t understand how I did it, but it was an expensive mistake.

So I click “Invest” and I get this. I haven’t got any Target Weights.

It’s a shame that Invest Engine don’t reply to my message.

@SolihullRos

Hi,

When you have entered your portfolio - can you see any ETF’s listed further down below?

It should look something like this:

Thank you. Yes, it looks like that. So I click “add securities” and it says I’ve laready got that stock, as below:

@SolihullRos

From the picture you posted go back so that your view is the same as I posted last night.

You should see the ETF with the target and current weight below the name - same as in my picture. If you only have 1 ETF in this portfolio both the target and the current weight should be 100%.

Now click on the ETF name and you should see something like this - scroll down:

Below the boxes with the detail information - can you see a number of shares?

Also, you could check your transaction history for this portfolio…

Go to the top of the page and click on Transactions

image

Click on Any portfolio and select this portfolio and you should then see all transactions.

Can you see any purchases in this portfolio?

If you can see that you have added the money but there is no purchase … then you have not bought the ETF after putting in the money.

Message to Tanya (InvestEngine) and Pinch (Community).
Thank you both for your help, but I am still puzzled..
I appear to have an order which has been awaiting processing for two months.
I attach 6 screenshots, numbered 10 - 60, and would appreciate being told how to do something with my £25,000 (which should now be £27,000).
10 First screen - my Dashboard
Click Vanguard - gives screen 20
Click Orders Placed - gives screen 30
Click back to Dashboard
Click Invest - gives screen 40
This appears to show an order waiting to be processed, but it has been there for many days
Click close - goes back to Dashboard
Click Vanguard - gives screen 50
Click Buy/Sell - gives screen 40 again
Click Orders Placed - gives screen 30 again
Click Key Investor Info - gives screen 70
Back to screen 50 again
Click View Transactions - no reaction

Could you please explain what has happened and how it can be remedied.

Hi Pinch,

I’ve just read your last message, and taken what I think you suggested as your last picture. This is it

@SolihullRos

Morning  :grinning:

Thanks for your screenshot :folded_hands: .

Soooo….. you transferred money in and have placed orders but they do not appear to have actioned yet.

The current weight of your portfolio is still 0%.

I think at this point it is best if you get in contact with IE CS support.

Just out of interest - when did you place the orders?

I have also been using the ‘Help’ facility but they aren’t very fast or helpful.

I would expect the ‘help’ service to be “Customer Services”, but no? Do you know how do I contact IE CS?

My final screenshot shows that I placed the order 3 months ago, (and they have risen by £2000 since).

It’s attached below.

The email address mentioned here regularly is support@investengine.com

Did they explain why it had been pending for so long ?

I am surprised they do not have an automatic email that show any transactions awaiting processing for longer then a week

Invest Direct have not responded to me properly. They have only sent three standard responses, which did not address my problem.

The transaction was pending for about 2 months. But I don’t understand the rules well enough.

It seems rather fishy that they have just announced an upgrade which includes the processing of the ‘Autoinvest’ flag. I wonder how many other people have faced the same issue.

I read, somewhere, that InvestDirect would talk to you on the phone, but when I tried it, they said they don’t do it.

Hi Solihull, I’m relatively new to IE (but not to investing) and I would say this. The actual mechanism/interface/functionality of this platform is strange at first and takes some time to get used to. I almost made the same mistake actually. Part of the reason it is structured as it is (I’m assuming here) is that it enables IE to offer clients an ETF purchasing/investing service at extremely low cost, the way they buy shares towards the end of the trading period in bulk on behalf of clients, then allocate them accordingly, they are essentially bulk buying and lowering running costs as I understand it, but the big advantage here is that you can buy ‘split’ ETF shares, where you have 10, 20 oe 200 £ sitting around it can be invested in any ETF almost down to the penny. I couldn’t do this on HL or IBKR for that matter. Plus there are no fees for holding a SIPP, which I think is a great deal. Happy to be corrected if I got any of this wrong.

Has this been resolved now? If so, what was the outcome?

This must be an issue at InvestEngines end, and someone at the support email address provided a few posts back should be able to sort this out. I can see you transferred in cash, screen 20 shows it in your cash account. Screen 30 shows you attempting to purchase your vanguard developed world etf. From there it shows as pending. Invest Engine should be able to explain what has happened? Why hasn’t it moved from pending? Is there a bug in the platform that needs fixing?
