Hi, I have A Virgin cash ISA which matures in 20 days and I would like to transfer some of it into a managed ISA I currently have with Invest engine…is that possible and what needs to be done?, Kip
Hi @kipkipperking, I transferred a Virgin ISA into my IE ISA a few weeks ago.
There is an option in the IE ISA to launch a transfer. Virgin is available to choose from the list of platforms to transfer from. You will need to add an address for Virgin, I used the Bothwell st., Glasgow address.
There is a question whether you want to transfer all or some, and how much if some.
You will be instructed to print and sign an automatically-generated form to send to IE, as Virgin will want a copy with a wet signature. I also submitted a Request using the Contact Us function in IE to which I attached a scan of the form to make sure it got through, though this not essential for the process.
You will have to wait for maturity, to ensure you don’t incur a penalty from Virgin Money. It took less than a week from requesting to seeing the money in IE.
IE have a help page on transfers, see link
Transfer an ISA
Thanks @nedjohn very useful feedback, I just tested the process and I can see all the points you made. My only question is that when it asks for the ‘Destination of ISA transfer’ it only gives me the option to “create new DIY portfolio” and my plan is transfer into my existing account managed by IE? Is there some other process or option I need to follow to transfer into my existing ISA managed by IE?, Thanks, Kip
Dear InvestEngine Team, how do customers target a Managed Portfolio for a Cash ISA Transfer? The Request Form only offers DIY Portfolios, and your help-video only shows DIY Portfolios too.
@kipkipperking good question
My ISA is DIY, and I was offered to transfer to my DIY Portfolio or create a new DIY Portfolio.
I set up a Managed Portfolio to test, but wasn’t offered it as a transfer destination - my knowledge exhausted, hence above.
Thanks @nedjohn , K
Hello Kip!
Please let me address your questions regarding ISA transfers:
1 - We only offer Stocks and Shares ISA accounts, however it’s possible to transfer from a cash ISA account to us.
Please note, that we cannot process ISA transfers per schedule, so you will need to wait before your ISA matures (you can request a transfer 4-5 days before it matures).
2 - All the ISA transfers initialy allocated to clients’ DIY portfolios or Cash account. You can request a transfer to one of your DIY ISA portfolios and then transfer the cash manually to your Growth portfolio (Managed portfolio).
3 - Regarding transfers from Virgin Money. To make a transfer request, please follow the instructions here - https://help.investengine.com/hc/en-gb/articles/5010007819293-How-do-I-transfer-an-ISA-to-InvestEngine
Virgin Money requires wet signatures on transfer forms, so once you filled out the form by following the steps from the guidance above, you will also be offered to fill out an alternative form where you will need to put a wet signature.
Also when filling out the form, kindly provide your full account reference (including sort code), this speeds up the process a bit (Virgin Money has multiple email addresses).
Any doubts or questions, feel free to let me know in reply or you can always get in touch via support@investengine.com
@Mikenike thank you for the clear and rapid response.
@kipkipperking from mikenike’s advice, you will need to create a DIY Portfolio to transfer the Virgin cash into initially.
You will be required to add at least one Fund to the DIY Portfolio in order to create it, something low-risk with a tight spread like CSH2 could suffice - you won’t actually invest in it, but it wouldn’t harm much if you did unintentionally.
Once done, go into the Portfolio and switch off Auto-Invest via the Options - then you won’t inadvertently invest in the fund while the cash transfers through.
You can create the DIY Portfolio before launching the transfer - then you don’t get lost trying to do it all in one go.
I would like to consolidate HSBC loyalty cash ISA and Hargreaves Landsdowne ISA into a managed fund here. Am I correct in understanding that I must open a DIY fund to transfer funds into then create a managed fund and move again into that? thank you
Hi Danielle! That is right - you’d need to set up a DIY portfolio and indicate it on the transfer form. Since you’ve opted for a managed portfolio, the DIY one will merely serve as a transit hub. After receipt, you can move your ISA transfer to its final - managed portfolio - destination by following these instructions
Thank you! For some reason I do not have the option to add funds. Don’t know why this could be?
