DODL SIPP as an Alternative to Vanguard

DODL look like a decent alternative to Vanguard for a SIPP…
0.15% flat platform fee
Fairly basic choice of investments which isn’t a bad thing…
No buying/ selling fees
Very straightforward
Nice app
Backed by AJ Bell
I have given up on IE for SIPP transfers
Can’t fault IE for ISAs though

Hi @Gandalf I hold a DODL SIPP for buying and holding Amazon shares. They don’t allow fractional ownership so you have to buy full shares, I just buy one per month and then another when the tax relief adds up to enough.

It is perfect if you want a simple and cheap platform to hold individual stocks in a SIPP.

I have never looked at funds etc that they offer, as the only reason I wanted it was to buy and hold AMAZON shares in a SIPP.

Hi, yes I am transferring my SIPP from Fidelity to DODL all being well.
I think that if IE were not fee-free then my ISA would be with them too.
Quite impressed tbh, and all seems very transparent.

Good luck. It certainly works for what I need it for, and have no complaints.

Yes thank you, I reckon it will suit my needs, and it has some good funds there too, as well as Individual shares.
Sometimes simplicity is bliss…it stops you from making costly mistakes

@Gandalf
Morning :grinning: :wave:
You are aware that the fee is not capped - compared to the “full” AJ Bell accounts which are capped at £10/month for SIPP’s?

Tried to open an account with Dodl and they refused me because I hold dual-citizenship. No explanation why. Was just told they won’t offer services to any UK citizen who holds a second passport.

I know Canadian and US nationals can create a regulatory headache for providers, but that’s not my situation.

They’re the only provider I’ve found who take this stance. Even their parent company AJ Bell didn’t have an issue. Only Dodl. And as I say, they wouldn’t explain why. It’s a shame, because they provide some interesting fund options.

Just out of interest; is your 2nd passport Irish? (Because mine is…)

@peter
Morning :grinning: :wave:
Which funds options do they provide, please? Can you find these funds elsewhere?

As to the issue of not being able to open an account - they say this on the website.

https://help.dodl.co.uk/en/articles/6686936-i-am-a-dual-national-can-i-open-a-dodl-account

Worth contacting AJ Bell about it directly, methinks. After all they are part of AJ Bell.

Yes, I believe they’ve changed their stance now and will accept dual citizens (possibly in part due to people like me lodging complaints).

But the way they handled the situation at the time left a bad taste in my mouth and I’m not going to be looking at them or AJ Bell again.

No not aware of that

The 10 cap is for SIPP shares only, not funds
I am putting a lump sum into the HSBC Ftse all world fund so the 0.15% is cheaper than AJ Bell 0.25% and certainly cheaper than Fidelity 0.35%

@Gandalf
I see. I don’t hold funds. Well… if it’s a lot cheaper then of course.

You might consider Prosper as they, like IE, have 0% SIPP fees and offer a limited range of funds including the Vanguard FTSE Global All Cap.

Hmm thanks for that one

Huh? They specifically opened a transfer process for Vanguard and moved thousands over including me. The process took a couple minutes

Looks cool for in the future (finally a new entrant with funds rather than ETFs)

Just to confirm; your SIPP has actually arrived from Vanguard?
Cash or in-specie?

Thanks

I don’t have a Vanguard SIPP, it’s currently with Fidelity

I don’t have a Vanguard SIPP,

Sorry mate, I was asking blobbicka. I must have screwed the reply up.
